The school was established as a higher education institution affiliated with the Ege University Faculty of Agriculture. It was approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly with Decree No. 1869 on March 18, 1975, and officially founded following its publication in the Official Gazette No. 15190 on March 27, 1975.

The curriculum was designed based on the academic program of the National College of Food Technology located in Weybridge, near London. The school commenced education in the 1975-1976 academic year with an initial enrollment of 37 students. Consulting Academic: Prof. Dr. E.J. Rolfe

Following a joint decision by the Ege University Faculty of Agriculture and the Ege University Senate in 1976, the institution was upgraded and restructured as the Faculty of Food in 1977, with the official approval of the State Planning Organization (SPO) and the Ministry of National Education. In 1979, the faculty proudly produced Turkey’s very first food engineers (7 students). Date of Establishment: March 1, 1978

Transition to the Department of Food Engineering |

Under Statutory Decree No. 41, dated July 20, 1982, the Faculty of Food was dissolved as a standalone faculty and briefly reorganized as a department under the Ege University Faculty of Agriculture A few months later, it was transferred to the newly established Ege University Faculty of Engineering. Similarly, the Departments of Chemistry, Textile, and Computer Engineering were also gathered under the umbrella of this new faculty. In 1979, the investment files prepared for the Faculty of Food campus and pilot facilities were submitted to the SPO (State Planning Organization). In the second quarter of 1980, its foundation was laid on 21.06.1980. On May 15, 1984, at 10:30, the "Department of Food Engineering" Education Building and Applied Facilities were opened for service.
